Mike Schwartz

Instructor: Drums & Bands

“I remember tapping my crayons on the desk after I finished a colouring project in Grade 3. The rest is history.”

For Mike, life was filled with music from day 1. Listening to Zeppelin, The Stones and Tom Cochrane on his way to hockey games, eating dinner with Mozart playing in the background, and the “cool” new groups like No Doubt and The Fugees from beyond his sister’s walls (we’ll disregard her Spice Girls and Macarena influence for now…). It was this constant variety that fueled an appreciation of music and as soon as he could, Michael joined jazz band in junior high school to flesh it all out.

A proud endorsee of Los Cabos Drumsticks and Soultone Cymbals, Michael is well versed in the styles of jazz, soul, pop, hip-hop, rock, country and R & B. In 2010 he turned down a seat in Metalworks’ Performance & Technology Program in favour of hitting the road and living the tour life as a professional drummer.

It may have seemed risky then, but that experience has lead Mike to many opportunities to share the stage with some of the greats – Blue Rodeo, Colin James, Lindsay Ell and Wide Mouth Mason just to name a few. Mike’s approach to teaching is simple: keep it fun and progress 1% each day. As the trusted authority of musician health and wellness, Mike’s expertise in exercise, posture, mental clarity and physical well-being inspires creativity and top performance out of his students. Mike’s excited to bring his fun-loving attitude to Studio E, share his enthusiasm for music and
facilitate a world-class learning environment for his students.
